The German Colonial Handbook 1903 lists "Kassum Nanji & Mohammed Nanji" as two of local Indian traders dealing in import/export of of some of these goods: ivory, cattle, furs, rhino horns,, hippopotamus, kopra, black corn, corn, rice, sesame, European swap goods, resident in Pangani in 1903.

He is also listed in German Colonial Handbook 1908 as a merchant in Pangani.
