'In 1942, Abdulla, my Great grandfather, who had always stayed back in Kutch, was now getting old and wanted to see his children. He made his voyage to Africa (turned out to be his first and final voyage) and stayed for 6 months in Mpwapwa, visiting with all his family members.
In the month of Ramathan, 1942, he was convinced he was going to die. He did not want to die in the village of Mpwapwa and be buried in this tiny African village.(He was a proud Indian). He insisted that Karim take him to the city, Dar es Salaam. They went and stayed at the "Daramshala" guest house across the narrow street from the Darkhana JK mosque. On Lail tul Qadr evening – the holy 23rd night of Ramadhan, while they could hear the prayers and ginans from the JK mosque across the street, Abdulla literally lay with his head in Karim's lap and passed away peacefully."
He was buried in Dar es Salaam.
