"Ali Sachoo, for example, started trading in cloves in the early 1880's with a quite substantial capital of Rupees 8,000 from his father, but could not pay him back.
His father, among other creditors, accused him of losing money because of speculation with dealings in clove. He suggested that his second son had advised Ali to speculate. Ali denied this.
According to him, “It was not my fault that I lost. Prices went down.”"
