The German Colonial Handbook 1908 mentions "Bandali Lalji" as an Indian trader, resident in Morogoro in 1908. Since he is not listed in 1904 version of the German Colonial Handbook, it would seem that he arrived around the time the Central Railway reached Morogoro in 1907.
"Then came the failure of the cotton
crop. Several large commercial houses collapsed. Ismaili
merchants lost large investments. Planters and buyers like
Bandali Merali, Fazal Kassam, and Bandali Lalji of Morogoro
incurred heavy losses. " WALJI, Shirin Remtulla, A HISTORY OF THE ISMAILI COMMUNITY IN TANZANIA The University of Wisconsin, Ph,D. 1974
