Born in 1892 Bhuj

Countess Bhachibai Tejpar, an Ismaili women educator and volunteer from East Africa. Countess Bachibai Tejpar or Maaji was born Bachi Ladha Karim in 1892 in Bhuj, Kutch. Her family moved to Zanzibar when she was four years old. She was named Bachi (living child) because she was the first surviving child of Ladha Karim Harji Fakirani and Rajbai Nasser Devjee, after they had lost four children. During her life, she served as an important educator on Ismaili mystical traditions and travelled widely to serve the educational and religious needs of the Ismailis in in East Africa, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma, etc. She served the community with the utmost dedication and sincerity until her death in October 1969.
