In 1890, Ghulam Ali Ghulam Hussain migrated from Surat, Gujarat, to settle in Calcutta. His business was selling caps (topis).
Ghulam Ali had come to Calcutta for business deliveries along with his daughter.
He had a daughter named Purbai, who was married to Ibrahimbhai Karmali. In 1910, a son named Abdullah was born. Shortly afterward, Ibrahimbhai Karmali passed away.
When he grew older, Vazir Abdullah Ibrahim Karmali joined his grandfather Vazir Ghulam Ali Ghulam Hussain in the cap business. The wife of Wazir Abdullah Ibrahim Karmali was Roshanbanu.
