Indian Settlers in Africa:The Legacy of Suleman Verjee and sons.
By Dr. Kas Jamal

Dr. Kas Jamal (MD, FRCP(C), FCCP) creates a facinating first person narrative of Khoja Ismaili & Indian life in colonial & post colonial Kenya through the lens of a leading merchantile family operating and interacting within a 'samaj", a collection of Indian migrant communities. His observations on people, institutions and general society are insightful and quite often humorous.

The book is available through Amazon in Kindle Edition.

The excerpt below is from the book.

Germany lost Moshi after they lost the First World War. Moshi had a thriving Ismaili population back to 1912 at least. He lived on Kawawa Street. Alnoor remembers staying with his Grandparents for a while in Moshi behind their Bakery.

His Grandfather Ismail was known as “Boflo” (A round loaf of Bread in Swahili). Alnoor remembers his Grandfather as a very kind man who would often give candy and treats to neighbourhood children. When they went to Tanzania in 2016, Alnoor and Sue found the bakery. The original one had burnt down and a new one was rebuilt on the same site.
