Nargis Nazarali, a woman of unwavering honesty, tireless work ethic, and remarkable contentment with life, has left behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her. Born in Bhavnagar, she was the daughter of Alidina Esmail Bhalloo and sister to Akber Alidina. She peacefully passed away in London in 1996.
Throughout her life, Nargis was known for her culinary skills, enchanting those around her with her delectable dishes. Her cooking prowess made her a cherished member of her community, and her Friday supply of food to the community’s widows in Zanzibar was eagerly awaited by all.
Her commitment to her faith and community was unwavering, and she will be remembered as a pillar of support and inspiration for future generations.
Nargis was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Sakina Bachoo Suleman, Rubab Hussein Merali, and Kulsum Hassanali Gulamali, who had also passed away in London. The loss of her sisters was undoubtedly a great sorrow in her life, yet she carried on with resilience and strength, finding solace in her faith and the memories they shared.
Tragically, Nargis also experienced the loss of her daughter, Zainab, who passed away at the young age of five, preceding her in death. Despite the heartbreak of losing her precious child, Nargis exemplified mercy, care, and immense patience, providing a source of strength and comfort to those around her during these challenging times. She was blessed by other children namely Layla Mohamedbaqi Alloo (Toronto, Canada), Marhuma Fatma Yusuf Alloo, Naseem Mohamed Manek (Moshi, Tanzania), Mumtaz Mohamed Suleman (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania), Marhum Abbas Hussein Nazarali, Mohamed Hussein Nazarali (London, UK), Rehana Mohamedrafik Dhalla (Mwanza, Tanzania), Ismat Akber Siwji (Dar es Salaam), Lutfiya Abdulrasul Nurmohamed (Toronto, Canada) and Naazneen Mohamedtaki Virani (Dar es Salaam)
As a widow since 1971, Nargis displayed remarkable sabr (patience) in facing the trials and tribulations of life. She embodied the true essence of resilience and taught those around her the value of finding contentment and gratitude in every circumstance.
Nargis Nazarali will be remembered as a selfless individual who touched the lives of many. Her life serves as an inspiration, reminding us of the importance of hard work, contentment, and unwavering faith. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
