On a visit to Zanzibar in 1914, WWI broke out and Rashid Bhai could not return to Saadani as it was a German garrison (army base) town and so the Brits bombarded the town heavily during the start of WWI. Rashid Bhai and a few others from Sadani came to Zanzibar tcouldnt return.
He then settled in Unguja, Zanzibar and created a successful business of hardware store as well owned two plantations.
Rashid Bhai died in one of his two plantations on December 24, 1947 when a coconut fell on his head. He had eight children:three sons and five daughters.
