Marehemu was a gifted intellectual and had schooled back home at the then Convent School at Mji Mkongwe, Unguja. She was appointed a Board Member of the then Zanzibar Ismailia Education Board and supported the decision to use the accumuted Trust Funds left by our grand parents (for meals to be served during the months of Muharram) by giving bursary grants to qualified Zanzibaris to pursue studies in Gt. Britain. However, after the January 1964 Zanzibar Revolution, the balance of the funds as well as files were transferred to Tanganyika.
