Shamshu Khadamali

HIGH SCHOOL
Another thing I was interested in during my high school days was music. I started learning to play the mandolin through my friend Shamshu Khadamali (nickname “Kasuku”). Kasuku was also a good singer and together with Shelle (Sheraly Jamal) and with his other friend Bashir Bhatt, we used to play and sing on the Voice of Kenya radio station every Sunday morning. We used to write our own
songs and used to have a lot of fun. “dame Nishar Ma Bharnia Master Ni Kasam” was made during those days. My first song in life I learned was K.L. Saigal’s “Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya”. Shelle got married to Dily and resides in North Vancouver, British Columbia. We are still best of friends. I have not seen Kasuku my friend for the past twenty years. I think he still lives in Nairobi. *Updated 2004 edit: Shamshu (Kasuku) visited me in Calgary in 1997. He is now married and resides in Toronto, Ontario.
