In the early days, the Khojas of the Indian Subcontinent gave food and money to their Pirs Later the Imams from Persia made dasond a religious obligation and fixed an amount based on a person's income. The Imam would appoint a collector who would make the difficult and dangerous journey to Persia and this person was called Ria. His expenses and a small percentage was given to him as a reward. He was also given a title of Rai.

Danedina was Rai from Okhamandal and lived mostly in Bhuj, Kutchh. He used to collect these religious dues from different villages in Kutchh and deliver them to Imam Abul Hasan Ali in Iran. He He had a son called Assa- a Persian word meaning staff or walking stick. Danedina passed away in, and is buried in, Iran. He died while on a tour of duty as a Rai.
