Dr Mumtaz has lived in Karachi all her life.
She was inspired to go into medicine by her mothers example ( who was a teacher for 35 years).
After graduation from the Dow medical college, she joined the Karachi Civic Hospital as a gynaecologist in August 1977 and retired from there in January 2012.
Since, then Dr Mumtaz has practised as a private doctor in her own clinic.
