"It may be noted here that the first Asani to settle in Masqat would Baledînâ Asani (1802-1896). He moved there in 1844 after his appointment by the first Aga Khan, Hasan Ali Shah, as his proxy at Masqaţ.

Baledînâ, who mastered Arabic and Persian, was responsible for the centralized collection of tithes paid to the Aga khan by Ismailis of Iraq, Iran, and the Gulf and then to transmit these funds to Aga khan in Bombay through bills of Exchange "hoondi".

He exercised this function for fifty-two years, that is to say until his death."
