Kamarbai, who was called Bibi, was both a dukawalla and a busy housewife having given birth to seven children.
She was married to Gokal Versi Vasram, who came from Sarodar,Kathiawar. She followed her husband to Tanganyika in 1915, with her 6 children in on a British steamship called the Karapara.
She immediately joined her husband in the duka in Kariakoo, Dar es Salaam , learing both Kiswahili langauge and vyapar business 'on the job'
In the shop, beause of the spices that they packaged every day for sell, she developed a cough and used to smoke cigarettes to supress her cough.
She died in Dar es Salaam.
